Located in the Valle del Guadalhorce region, Coín has geographical characteristics that put it in a favorable situation for the development of a type of tourism aimed at tourists who are more sensitive to the conservation of the natural environment.

Coín enjoys a great diversity of landscapes that range from the mountains to the river, with extraordinary characteristics in terms of environmental and landscape quality, being considered one of the areas of the province where its surroundings are in the best state of conservation.

In its relief, places of singular beauty stand out such as Albuqueria, Barranco Blanco, Los Llanos del Nacimiento, Sierra Negra, Alpujata or Sierra Gorda.

Coin has abundant water, which is one of the greatest wealth of our people. The El Nacimiento spring, located next to the road that leads to Mijas, is one of the most abundant springs in Sierra Blanca, with an average historical value of 350 liters per second. The water from this emblematic spring has been used since time immemorial both to supply the population and to irrigate the orchards. Next to the spring there is a recreational area that is highly visited by all the residents.

Among the agricultural landscapes we must highlight the district of La Fuente, classified as Outstanding Place, a beautiful valley in which we can find blankets of vegetables and fruit trees among the native vegetation.

In addition, two rivers that are considered a Site of Community Interest, the Alaminos River and the Pereilas River, run through our municipal area, protected within the Natura 2000 Network of the European Community.

Barranco Blanco is one of the most spectacular natural sites in the province of Malaga. It is a place of crystalline waters, white stones and generous vegetation, nestled between the Sierras Negras and Sierra de Mijas, which owes its beauty to the erosion generated on its rock walls by the passage of water. Here we find typical Mediterranean mid-mountain vegetation, with populations of pines and carob trees. Along with these, oleanders, mastics, rosemary or heather. As for its fauna, the populations of otters stand out, one of the reasons why this place was protected.

To take into account: The forest track, which is accessed by the MA-3303, km 4.1, is closed to the flow of vehicles between June 15 and October 15 as a protection measure against fires. On the edge of this forest track there is enough space to park the vehicle.
We recommend visiting Barranco Blanco during the week, since in the summer months the area is very popular. We also remind you that it is totally forbidden to leave garbage both in this and in any other area of our natural environment.

In order to develop all the potential of our natural environment, the Coín City Council has promoted the supply of equipment for the development of these activities. The MUNICIPAL NETWORK OF COIN PATHS is a set of routes for public use intended for the practice of outdoor sports and knowledge of nature such as hiking, horse riding and mountain biking, inspired by the principles of sustainable development that is based on the protection and conservation of natural values and resources and their regulated and orderly use.

Likewise, Coín is a transit area for migratory birds on their way from the Strait to Africa, making it a pole of attraction for bird watching tourism.
